An Improved Approach for Contrast Enhancement of Spinal Cord Images based on Multiscale Retinex Algorithm
This paper presents a new approach for contrast enhancement of spinal cord
medical images based on multirate scheme incorporated into multiscale retinex
algorithm. The proposed work here uses HSV color space, since HSV color space
separates color details from intensity. The enhancement of medical image is
achieved by down sampling the original image into five versions, namely, tiny,
small, medium, fine, and normal scale. This is due to the fact that the each
versions of the image when independently enhanced and reconstructed results in
enormous improvement in the visual quality. Further, the contrast stretching
and MultiScale Retinex (MSR) techniques are exploited in order to enhance each
of the scaled version of the image. Finally, the enhanced image is obtained by
combining each of these scales in an efficient way to obtain the composite
enhanced image. The efficiency of the proposed algorithm is validated by using
a wavelet energy metric in the wavelet domain. Reconstructed image using
proposed method highlights the details (edges and tissues), reduces image noise
(Gaussian and Speckle) and improves the overall contrast. The proposed
algorithm also enhances sharp edges of the tissue surrounding the spinal cord
regions which is useful for diagnosis of spinal cord lesions. Elaborated
experiments are conducted on several medical images and results presented show
that the enhanced medical pictures are of good quality and is found to be
better compared with other researcher methods.Comment: 13 pages, 6 figures, International Journal of Imaging and Robotics.

Status of marine fisheries in India - Winter School on Impact of Climate Change on Indian Marine Fisheries held at CMFRI, Cochin 18.1.2008 to 7.2.2008
Marine fisheries sector in India plays a significant role in Indian economy and provides livelihood
security to about 3.5 million coastal rural folk living in 3200 marine fishing villages. The substantial
growth of the sector is due to innovative and efficient fishing practices, government policies, well developed
harvest and post-harvest infrastructure and increased demand for marine fish products in the domestic and
international markets. The growing demand resulted in fishing effort intensification, extension of fishing
grounds, increase in overall length of fishing boats, holding capacity of the trawlers, fishing effort in terms
of fishing hours through multi-day fishing by the mechanized sector and enhanced fishing operations by the
motorized sector. Multiday fishing that came into vogue in the 90s. The production, which reached 2.7
million t in 1997, has remained almost invariant. The asymptotic production level in all the regions of
exploitation indicates a little scope for further increase. Thus, there is an urgent need to ensure sustainability
of resources through appropriate management interventions as envisaged in the FAO Code of Conduct for
Responsible Fisheries and also in the context of global warming and climate change
Marine fisheries of India: an approach to responsible fisheries management
The marine fisheries sector in
IndiaтАв has registered a phenomenal
growth during the last five decades
both quantitatively and
qualitatively. The subsistence
fisheries during the early 1950s
produced about 0 .5 million tonnes
annually. Currently, the total
annual production is about 2.7
million tonnes
Demersal Fish Assemblages of the Southwest Coast of India
Demersal surveys from the southwest coast of India were analyzed to determine the general pattern of distribution of demersal species assemblages in the area. Season┬мality is pronounced, indicating three major periods, pre-monsoon, monsoon and post-monsoon. Each of the periods is characterized by different oceanographic circulation patterns that mainly determine the pattern of distribution of species assemblages. Spatial analysis confirmed that the Wadge Bank has the highest po┬мtential for producing good quality fish. Region-wise analysis of data indicated that maximum effort and highest landings are from the known grounds along the south┬мwest coast, although certain northern areas were also found to be fairly productiv
Awareness campaign for Fisherwomen
Women in fishing communities have
decisioh-making role in community management.
With the increasing commercialisation of fishing industry I
women's access to post-harvest operations
in fisheries has been declining: It is- estimated that only about 20 percent
of women from traditional fishing households
get opportunities for income generation from fishery related activities
which are seasonal
Marine Fisheries along the Southwest Coast of India
Marine fisheries production in India has increased from 0.5 million t in 1950 to 2.47 million t in 1997. The gross value of fisheries landings in India was US$2.37 billion in 1997. The contribution of fisheries to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has risen from 0.7% in 1980 - 81 to 1.2% in 1994 - 95. The contribution to agricultural GDP has risen from 1.9% to 4%. Fisheries production also plays a critical role in food security and livelihood in rural area
Trophic Model of the Coastal Fisheries Ecosystem of the Southwest Coast of India
The Ecopath approach and software were used to construct a trophic model of
the coastal fisheries ecosystem of the southwest (SW) coast of India. The model consisted of 11 ecological groups and used estimated landings from all areas along the southwest coast (based on the sample surveys conducted by Coastal Marine Fisheries Research Institute for the years 1994, 1995 and 1996). The trophic model suggests high catch levels, particularly for the large and medium predators, demersal feeders and detritivores. The biomass estimates in the trophic model were comparable to the biomass estimates from trawl surveys based on the swept area method for the southwest coast
ALGORITHMS FOR CONSTRUCTING EDGE MAGIC TOTAL LABELING OF COMPLETE BIPARTITE GRAPHS
The study of graph labeling has focused on finding classes of graphs which admits a particular type of labeling. In this paper we consider a particular class of graphs which demonstrates Edge Magic Total Labeling. The class we considered here is a complete bipartite graph Km,n. There are various graph labeling techniques that generalize the idea of a magic square has been proposed earlier. The definition of a magic labeling on a graph with v vertices and e edges is a one to one map taking the vertices and edges onto the integers 1,2,3,тАжтАжтАж, v+e with the property that the sum of the label on an edge and the labels of its endpoints is constant independent of the choice of edge. We use m x n matrix to construct edge magic total labeling of Km,n
